Why We Are Doing It

Rural and remote areas of Assam face a pressing issue when it comes to dental health disparities, with a particular impact on underprivileged women and children. In these marginalized regions, access to basic dental care and oral hygiene education is limited, resulting in a disproportionately high prevalence of dental problems. According to a study conducted in 2020, the dental health situation in rural Assam is alarming, with a significant proportion of the population suffering from untreated dental caries, gum diseases, and other oral health issues. This is largely attributed to the lack of dental clinics, qualified professionals, and awareness campaigns in these underserved communities. Moreover, the situation is more dire for underprivileged women and children who often bear the brunt of these disparities due to socioeconomic factors and limited healthcare resources.

Compounding the issue is the lack of proper dental infrastructure in rural Assam, as many areas lack even basic dental clinics. According to the Assam Health Department, the dentist-to-patient ratio is significantly imbalanced in these regions, with one dentist for every 10,000 people, far below the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommended ratio of 1:7500. This inadequate access to dental care exacerbates dental health disparities, with many individuals, especially women and children, suffering from pain, discomfort, and an increased risk of serious health issues. Without timely intervention and education, these disparities are likely to persist, affecting the overall health and well-being of these underprivileged populations. To address this pressing issue, it is imperative for policymakers, healthcare organizations and non profit organizations to focus on improving dental infrastructure, promoting oral health education, and implementing outreach programs that specifically target rural and remote areas of Assam. By doing so, we can begin to bridge the dental health gap, ensuring that underprivileged women and children have access to essential dental care and the knowledge needed to maintain proper oral hygiene.

Limited access to dental care and awareness, coupled with economic challenges, exacerbates underprivilege’s vulnerability to oral health issues. GPGCF understands the urgency to bridge this gap, thereby enhancing the overall health and well-being of these communities. Through our Dental Medical Health Camp, we aim to provide not just immediate relief but also create awareness about oral hygiene, ensuring long-term health benefits for the beneficiaries.

For Whom We Are Doing It ?

Our focus is on underprivileged women and children in Titabor region, residing in areas where affordable dental healthcare services are scarce. These individuals often lack the means to access quality dental and medical care, leading to persistent health challenges. By concentrating our efforts on this demographic, we aim to uplift these communities, empowering them with knowledge, care, and a sense of dignity.
